Causes of dry eye may include dry environment or workplace with high wind or air conditioning, sun exposure. Sometimes patients that underwent previous eye surgeries often suffer from dry eye. Dry eye sometimes can be caused by smoking or secondhand smoking. Patient that had chemical burns may suffer from dry eye. Patients that overwear their contact lenses often come in complaining of dry eye symptoms. Lastly, another common cause of dry eye is use of systemic medications to treat other diseases. And sometimes patients use eye drops to treat their ocular disease like glaucoma, which may result in dry eye.
