Emergency Room – Arrival

Transcript

Although many patients arrive to the ER by ambulance, most people get to the ER on their own and check in at the front desk. Depending on the ER, most patients who arrive by ambulance will be taken to a room where their care will start. Typically, they will be seen by a staff member who will begin care by asking questions and getting the vital signs. When patients get to the ER on their own, they usually will either be taken directly to a room, if one is available, or they may be taken to a triage room to begin their assessments. After this initial assessment, they may then be brought back to a room if one is available or they may need to wait in the waiting area until the treatment room becomes available.
