Transcript

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed how we care for patients in the ER, many of these changes reflect efforts to limit the chances of spreading COVID-19. Many ERs require patients to wear a mask and take other precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Furthermore, many ERs will even have a separate area for evaluation of patients who have symptoms that could potentially be due to COVID-19. Some ERs have even created a separate area outside of the building where screening evaluations are performed. Depending on local protocols, staff may have to wear extra protective equipment or limit the amount of time spent in the room with the patients, depending on local protocols. The ER may have limits on who patients can bring with them back into the room.
