Transcript

Medication assisted therapy, MAT, is a way to treat opioid addiction that uses opioid medications like buprenorphine or methadone to satisfy your urge to use drugs. If you were withdrawing from opioids in the ED, your physician may have given you buprenorphine. The main ingredient in Subutex or Suboxone, buprenorphine prevents withdrawal, but will not make you high. Some ER providers are able to give you a short prescription for the buprenorphine until you get a follow-up appointment at a clinic, others will help you get a next day appointment in a treatment center.
