Floaters can appear as various shapes and sizes. They can also appear as thread like strands or cobwebs. An eye doctor should absolutely be consulted if the appearance of floaters is sudden where you hadn’t had them before, or if there’s sudden worsening of existing floaters. There are a variety of floaters that would require immediate attention. A sudden onset of flashes on the side of the vision or curtain that is blocking the vision are both considered an ocular emergency and must be followed with a dilated eye exam as soon as possible. Preferably the same day.
