Transcript

The term genetic disease is typically used to describe rare conditions that result from single gene mutation, such as hemophilia, sickle cell disease and cystic fibrosis. Genomics play a role in virtually all of the much more common complex conditions that afflict the majority of people over the span of their lifetime. Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, depression, the list goes on and on. Genomics also play an important role and how our bodies respond to infections, such as different types of pneumonia, influenza, and even SARS-COV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
