So the inheritance pattern of gout isn’t clear, but we do believe there’s some genetic components to it and some environmental factors that are involved. And having a close relative with gout increases your chances, but you can also have gout and be the first person in the family. There are some inherited enzyme disorders that can also cause gout. So if you have gout flares at a young age or other complications, that might be playing a part.
