Your doctor or dermatologist will give you a physical exam and review your medical history before making a diagnosis regarding your hair loss. Occasionally, making some changes to what you eat can help with hair loss issues. They may also change any prescription medications you are taking if they believe they may be causing your hair loss. Suppose your dermatologist believes your hair loss may be related to your skin or autoimmune disease. In that case, they may take a biopsy of the skin of your scalp to send to a lab for testing and evaluation under a microscope. Diagnosing the hair loss may take time, and there are many reasons for it. A good doctor or dermatologist might check several causes before they give you a diagnosis and treatment plan.
