The most important question that we need to be aware of is, what is Hashimoto’s disease? So Hashimoto’s disease is an auto immune condition of the thyroid gland. In this auto-immune condition, your body starts producing antibodies against your own thyroid tissues. These antibodies starts the destruction of your thyroid gland. Now over the course of time, these antibodies lead to the complete destruction of the thyroid gland, and it causes a condition called hypothyroidism, or low thyroid. In this situation, your thyroid gland is not able to produce enough thyroid hormone. So you need external support through a medicine called levothyroxin. Hashimoto’s disease is the most common autoimmune condition in the world. It mainly affects middle aged females anywhere from 30 to 60 years of age. But now in the recent years, we are seeing an increased incidence of Hashimoto’s disease in males and also in children.
