One of the most important topics in prevention of heart disease is smoking. I tell patients that are smokers,, I tell them everybody quits. And they look at me puzzled and wonder, how do you mean? And I say, well, some people quit after death. That’s too late. Some do quit after cancer and that’s too late. Some quit after a heart attack and that’s too late. Some quit when I tell them and some quit now, and now is the most important time. So if you’re a smoker who wants to prevent heart disease, if you’re a heart disease patient who smokes, you gotta quit now.
