Heart Murmurs – When to see a Cardiologist

share

Transcript

When should I see a cardiologist for a heart murmur? If your primary care doctor develops, discovers, a heart murmur on physical exam, the first thing is not to worry. Your doctor might perform an electrocardiogram to assess for any abnormalities, and then you would see the cardiologist. We recommend seeing the cardiologist if you have symptoms. If you have shortness of breath, chest pain, lightheadedness, fatigue, dizziness, fainting. If you have any symptoms, that would be the best time to see a cardiologist. But if you don’t have symptoms, it still might be wise to get the murmur checked out, to see if you run the risk of developing problems down the line.
