What is HPV or human papilloma virus? Well, for one thing, it is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. HPV is a virus that is sexually transmitted and it can impact women, girls, boys, men, essentially anyone who has sexual activity. It can impact the vagina, the cervix, the genital area, the anus, the penis, and mucus membranes in the mouth area. So it occurs in all ages, in all ethnicities, all races. It is most common in the 20 to 24 year age category, but it can occur at any age and approximately 30 to 40. And even up to 60% of people who are sexually active have had, or carry human papilloma virus.
