Typically the presence of a hydrocele is not a medical emergency in unusual cases. If the hydrocele becomes infected, that can be called an abscess. And that’s the one scenario where you might require immediate attention. You’d know this because you might have things like high fever, redness of the skin on the scrotum on that side and tenderness to the touch. Otherwise, most hydroceles are not an emergency.
