In newborns, hydroceles typically resolve on their own and don’t necessarily need to be treated. In adults, whether a hydrocele needs to be treated or not depends on how bothersome it is. It’s not treated simply because it’s there. Very large hydroceles or bothersome hydroceles typically are requiring treatment.
