I know the thought of being able to avoid it may be comforting to some people, but the truth is you really can’t avoid it, especially if it’s based on genetics. Most treatments focus on improving symptoms or helping people cope with symptoms. Often using approaches aimed at a combination of decreasing gas and things that might stretch your intestines as well as things to improve the signal from your vagus nerve, which is a cranial nerve that helps regulate a feeling of wellbeing, as well as returning a lot of pain sensation from your intestine. It’s important to know that it’s not likely that any of these medications, approaches, or therapies will make you feel a hundred percent better, although it is really worth noting that almost no one has a stomach that feels a hundred percent of the time.
