Relationship of testosterone to the prostate gland is not linear, which is to say that as testosterone increases, it does not necessarily predict an increased risk of either BPH, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or prostate cancer. On the other hand, if there’s no testosterone in the bloodstream, neither BPH nor prostate cancer arise. But here again, what’s the connection? And I’ll just tell you that it’s been shown in a number of studies that the increase of testosterone that results from rational replacement, really has no relationship to the progression of BPH or the development of prostate cancer. Still when we’re monitoring those patients who we are treating with testosterone supplementation, it’s always wise to monitor the PSA blood test. Prostate specific antigen blood test. So bottom line is, we’re aware of it. We don’t see it very often. There could be a correlation that is not well-defined when we talk about testosterone and the prostate gland.
