Lung Cancer – Brain Metastases

Transcript

When the cancer spreads to the brain, it may spread to an area where it disturbs the normal electrical activity of the brain cells, causing a seizure. Seizures presents with convulsions or tremors, shaking of the entire body, or only parts of the body. Most people lose consciousness during a seizure and could hurt themselves if they fall during the seizure episode. After a seizure, the brain needs some time to recover and return to the baseline.

If you develop a new seizure, please call your doctor as soon as possible because confirmatory diagnosis and treatment are needed. Your oncologist will be able to determine what the next steps are, and if you need to be admitted to a hospital. Or you can receive care at home. Your palliative care team works together with your oncology team to treat and monitor your symptoms with the goal to prevent new seizure episodes from occurring.
