Narcissistic Personality Disorder – Overview

Narcissistic personality disorder is one of the personality disorders within the cluster B traits of personality disorders. Unfortunately, narcissistic personality disorder is one of those disorders that really do need to get treatment. So for example, there are many people that have personality disorders, but have never gotten treatment, but however, narcissistic personality is one of those disorders that do need treatment. And unfortunately, the people that are around people that suffer from this personality disorder really tend to suffer a lot. One of the hallmarks of a narcissistic personality disordered individual is this sense of entitlement. These people are very, very grandiose and they tend to lack empathy. What makes a person a narcissistic person, has a narcissistic personality disorder? It can be a combination of having it from a genetic perspective, but also can be due to your actual upbringing. So there are theories that people that came from very over-protective households, or, vice versa, households in which they were very neglected, actually develop this type of personality disorder.

And what is really interesting about the people with the narcissistic personality disorder is that they’re infamous for basically gaslighting the people that they deal with. So if you’re dealing with a person with a narcissistic personality disorder, you will feel as if there’s something wrong with you. Because the person with the narcissistic personality disorder, they project. They project so much, and you have to be careful to not identify with their projection. So despite the obvious appearance that these people are very grandiose, they’re very entitled, very lacking, and they have that lack of empathy. But underneath that veneer are people that are very insecure. These are people that are very, very sensitive to criticism. Hence the need to be very careful when you deal with a person with a narcissistic personality disorder,
