Sinus surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you don’t stay in the hospital, you have the surgery performed, and then you go to recovery room. After that you go home. Overnight hospitalization is usually done with some patients who have really significant medical conditions or require significant observation like patients with sleep apnea. Nasal and sinus surgery is really well tolerated these days. The whole idea of nasal packing years ago is not performed anymore. Sinus surgery is done as an outpatient basis, meaning you have your surgery, you go to recovery room and then you go home. Typically there’s no packing. Any discomfort is controlled by extra strength Tylenol, or for the first night, sometimes you’ll have something a little more stronger to control your discomfort.
