Pheochromocytomas are quite rare, impacting only one to two out of every million people on earth. If you just look at patients with elevated blood pressure or hypertension, it’s still a rare cause. It’s the explanation for high blood pressure only in one out of 500 people. It most commonly affects people in their fifties and sixties and impacts women more commonly than men.
