The vaccine for pneumonia is effective. It’s specifically for the pneumococcal strains of pneumonia, and there’s two different types that are available within the United States. Typically we give pneumonia vaccine for people over age 65, but if you have any comorbid conditions such as diabetes, emphysema, you’re immunocompromised, you may need the vaccines earlier. And that would be something to speak with your doctor about in terms of when to get the pneumonia vaccine.
