Transcript

A poison ivy rash is due to an allergic contact dermatitis. It might actually spread from one area of the body to another if the oil substance from the plant stays on the skin. It is attributed to an allergic reaction to an oily resin known as urushiol. This oily resin is on leaves, roots and stems of poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac.
