Prostate Cancer – Radical Prostatectomy

share

Transcript

So the second treatment option would be radical prostatectomy. And the way that that’s performed is by robotic surgery, where we make just a few small incisions, insert a camera into the abdomen, which enables us to visualize the entire pelvis. We also insert small instruments that can basically replicate the movements of the human hand, including cutting, tying, and placing sutures. We control the robot from a console that is external to the patient as well. The overwhelming majority of prostate cancer surgery is performed with this platform. Most of the patients who have robotic prostatectomy will be young, healthy, and have at least intermediate to high risk prostate cancer.
