After your stay in the hospital, there will most likely be rehabilitation. Stroke always involves some form of brain damage would impact your ability to function. What it depends on is just how much damage there was and to which part of the brain and to how severe the damage. The goal of rehabilitation is to help you relearn those skills enough so that you can be sent home to continue care. Physical therapy can help you gain back muscle strength that may have been impacted by the stroke, or even simply from the hospital stay. Occupational therapy helps you relearn how to use those muscles properly. And finally, if you need speech therapy, that helps you regain the ability to talk. Some people might even need to learn the alphabet from the beginning.
