Although there’s no absolute time limit and it even may be difficult to determine the exact onset of testicular torsion in a specific patient, lasting damage to the testicle is thought to occur at around six hours after the onset of testicular torsion. So if surgery is done in late stages, testicle removal becomes more likely. For example, if surgery is done more than 12 hours after the onset of testicular torsion, about 75% of patients, won’t be able to have their testicle saved and will have to undergo testicular removal.
