Because of how the tonsils work, tonsillitis is most common in the early development stages. When the tonsils trap a disease agent, they allow the body to produce antibodies for that specific disease. For that reason, it is most common to find tonsillitis in children who have not yet come down with most of the diseases that their tonsils are trapping.
