Transcript

Tuberculosis, commonly known as TB, is a serious bacterial lung infection that may also affect many other parts of the body. For many years, tuberculosis has been the leading cause of infectious death worldwide, surpassed only in 2020, of course, by COVID. You may have heard of TB being referred to as consumption. At various times in history, TB has been known by many different names in many different languages. In English, perhaps the most menacing name for TB is “captain of all these men of death,” a phrase that was first used by an English poet named John Bunyan.
