Let’s talk about early stage hormone positive breast cancer. So this would include breast cancers who have estrogen and or progesterone receptors positive. And this would be discluding those cancers that would also have HER2 positive receptors.

For strictly hormone positive early stage breast cancers, generally the primary upfront treatment is going to be surgery. Now that sometimes can change based on the size of the tumor at presentation, and if there’s any questionable lymph nodes or lymph nodes that were proven to be positive on biopsy. So sometimes patients and surgeons do opt for upfront chemotherapy if they have a large tumor or extensive nodal disease.

Key Takeaways

1. Early stage hormone positive breast cancer includes breast cancers who have estrogen and or progesterone receptors positive.

2. It does not include those cancers that would also have HER2 positive receptors.

3. For early stage breast cancers, the first treatment is going to be surgery but sometimes is chemotherapy first if they have a large tumor or extensive nodal disease.
