In addition to squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the non-small cells, you also have large cell carcinoma and you can have what’s called a well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor. There’s also several other smaller types that fall into the non-small cell lung cancer category. And they’re usually treated all in a similar fashion, except for possibly the very well-differentiated neuroendocrine, which you’ll talk to your oncologist about.

One type of lung cancer that is very much like small cell lung cancer is called poorly differentiated carcinoma. One other term you may hear is poorly differentiated neuroendocrine tumor, or carcinoma. These, if they’re very poorly differentiated, actually behave a lot like small cell.
