Melanoma can develop anywhere on the body. Areas that have the greatest sun exposure are the most prevalent. So the face, back, arms and legs, particularly the backs of women’s legs are implicated. Of note in darker skinned individuals, palms of the hands, soles of the feet and fingernail beds are also implied. Because of genetic considerations, any location can be involved, even areas that typically never see sunlight. Armpits, genitalia, and even the mouth. Consequently, any change in an existing mole, any unusual looking growth or any new pigmented growth on the skin should be evaluated.
